Some experiments in optics require a long optical path of the light, to the end of the room and back.
A solution for a single optical component, which can placed far away from the optical table, was found by the mini optical table shown in picture 5.
Picture 5: "Mini Optical Table.
The system is made from a rigid plastic tube of length 15 centimeters, and diameter 5 centimeters (cut from a tube from hardware store).
On one side of the tube, a metal plate (with dimensions: 5x5 cm) is glued.
The tube is placed inside a toy bucket filled with sea sand.
Over the sand a plastic sheet (with a hole for the tube) can be places, and a rubber band around the bucket edges can hold it in place.
On this mini table, the magnetic component holders can be used, the same way as they are used on the metal optical table.
Changing the angle of the tube inside the sand, leaves it stable in its new position, because of the high friction between the sand and the tube.
This enables the adjustments of the height and angle of the mini table with the optical component on it.
