Diode Laser Packaging
The miniature sizes of diode lasers, require special
packaging to enable people to use them with comfort. There are
many kinds of packaging, but the standard is similar to a transistor package,
and includes in the package the basic collimating
optics to create a useable beam (see figure 6.29).

To get high power from diode lasers, special
arrays of diode lasers were developed. These diode
arrays emit synchronized radiation together, and output power
of tens of watts is available. Although the radiation is emitted from many
diode lasers, they are optically coupled
such as it is possible to get coherent
laser output out of these special lasers.
