Example 7.14: Pulse Energy

Q switch YAG laser produce 2,000 pulses per second.

The average power of the laser is 10 [W].

Calculate the average energy per pulse.

Solution to Example 7.14:

Energy of a single pulse is the energy in one second divided by the number of pulses per second.

Energy per second is the average power (P_av), and the number of pulses per second is f, thus:

E_p = P_av/f Ep = 10 [W]/2,000 = 5*10^-3 [J] = 5 [mJ]
