Example 7.14: Pulse Energy

Q switch YAG laser produce 2,000 pulses per second.

The average power of the laser is 10 [W].

Calculate the average energy per pulse.

Solution to Example 7.14:

Energy of a single pulse is the energy in one second divided by the number of pulses per second.

Energy per second is the average power (Pav), and the number of pulses per second is f, thus:

Ep = Pav/f
Ep = 10 [W]/2,000 = 5*10-3 [J] = 5 [mJ]
